When I first log in to explore the website was so frustrated. I felt like I couldn’t find anything. At that point, I knew I was missing something. I need to get a mentor. I needed someone to show me the ropes.
After a few times of yelling at my computer I finally got some confidence and start to explore the world with my avatar. I learned that my avatar could have different hair colors, different outfits, and could also fly. I think the key in SL was definitely to find the mentor. It’s always easy when you have someone to lead you.

When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.

Oh second life... Why must you be so complicated?

Where's the big red "EASY" button when I need it?! I feel pathetic admitting to this, but I have the patience of a flea!!! When I first started my Second Life experience, I x'd through all of the tutorials almost as fast as they could pop up and thought, honestly, that I would be able to play with it and figure it out myself. However - that was not the case...

I began by thinking it was an independent move to tell an approaching "mentor" to get lost. Apparently, that was my first major faux pas. When attempting to make my "avatar" thinner and blonder, I ended up with this three-skirt-wearing, mildly plump brunette with tufts of red and purple hair! (Okay, this is SO not The Sims...) Evidently, I aborted my SL mission after the whole funk makeover mess.

Although my aggravation and frustration won me over in the last round, I am confident that with the help of some SL-savvy friends, and a hint of perseverence, I too will become an active part of this computer-based world.

I guess this is chapter one...Brittney Matthews.

I find that as technology improves I just get stupider. I find it amazingly fascinating that I am, essentially, creating a persona that is driven by my actions and my desires. I have conversations with people and I've danced with people on this site. It's really quite intriguing. My first experience was fun. Within five minutes online I was met by a 'Mentor' of the game who showed me how to change clothes and dance with people and do all these crazy things. The guy was well learned in SL and taught me a lot. It's strange to think that he's probably all the way in Istanbul or right next door to me. It really weirds me out a bit. Now here's a little something about SL that I found...also note that we have a future discussion about SL and I'll probably refer back to this site. But you should check it out. I like the thoughts and ideas on it.
